Ayurveda is the natural healing system of India dating back to 3000 B.C. Etymologically the Sanskrit term ‘Ayurveda’ is composed by two words: ‘Ayu’ and ‘Veda’. Ayu means Llife and Veda means knowledge or Science. The combination of the two words means The science of Life.
According to Ayurveda, health is not merely considered to be a state of freedom from ailments or diseases, but rather a state of enjoying uninterrupted physical, mental and spiritual happiness and fulfilment. It also defends that we are not what ywe eat, but what we digest. If our digestive capacity is not sufficient, we will not only have food digesting issues, we will also have issues with the way we see, hear, and feel. This imbalance causes a build-up of toxins, leading to physical and mental illness.
According to Ayurveda, illness occurs due to the loss of self-reference, that is when our reference becomes something else in the external world and not what we really need. This imbalance occurs from the inside out. That is why the search for spirituality and self-knowledge is so important.
We are formed by 5 elements of nature that come together to generate forces and physiological functions called Doshas: space and air forms Vata, fire and water generate Pitta, and water and earth produce Kapha. These elements must be functioning properly for us to have physical, mental, and emotional health.
If the Dosha is imbalanced is necessary to diagnose the imbalance. We recommend several therapeutic tools to harmonize and integrate your physical and mental health. That includes herbal medicine, oiling through massages, sweating to eliminate toxins, detoxification therapies, lifestyle changes, moderate physical activity, yoga practice, and meditation.
Treatment is done individually, as each patient requires a unique approach that will depend on the diagnosis of the Dosha imbalance.
